Lonely Planet selects Dresden as a top travel destination worldwide

According to the travel guide ‘Lonely Planet’, Saxony's capital Dresden will be one of the world's most popular destinations in 2023. In the global list ‘Best in Travel 2023’, the city on the Elbe is listed alongside destinations such as Sydney (Australia) and Montevideo (Uruguay). With its list, ‘Lonely Planet’ wants to draw special attention to meaningful travel experiences. Dresden is listed in ‘Learning New Things’ – on one side of the Elbe, the carefully reconstructed old town, on the other, the modern centre with hand-brewed beer, international cuisine and great street art, and just a short train ride away, the Elbe Sandstone Mountains with ‘legendary natural scenery’. In Germany, Dresden is known above all as a cultural centre with the Semper Opera House, the Zwinger Palace, the Sächsische Staatskapelle, the Grünes Gewölbe (Green Vault), the Frauenkirche, the Old Masters Picture Gallery and the Striezelmarkt, one of the oldest and largest Christmas markets in the world.
